clipping calves

That's a tough one to explain on the computer. I guess the big difference is the look that you are going for. With heifers you try to make them look deeper, smoother, and more feminine. With steers there is more emphasis on making them look thicker, more expressive, and bigger boned. Most people make the steers look more post legged than you would typically want a female. Usually see bigger tailheads too. Most of the really good fitters have an idea about the preferences of certain judges and may clip or fit a little different from one show to the next. I usually try to watch the first couple classes and see what the judge likes and doesn't like and try to fit accordingly. I have been clipping and fitting for a long time but there is always a new or different way to do things. I still like to go see what everybody else's clip jobs look like. Hope this helps.
