I got a call from a lady today that wanted to put in a new yard or control the weeds in her yard so I go there and shes outside with her neighbors hubby and wife the lady i called i guess wanted them there for whatever reason. I got there started pointing weeds out and stuff that needs to be done and these jackass neighbors kept spouting off about crap they had no idea about. this went on for a good 15 mins which typically i can only deal with 5 mins of stupidity. I told the lady my summary for the back yard then told her for the front i recommend using round up this fall probably mid july killing all weeds let me come back a week later till it up with my tractor then rake off all weeds in a pile haul off till again and mix in compost mix and topsoil then plant some ky31 and maybe bluegrass depending on her pocket book... she said ok that sounds good... the neighbors said you dont know what youre talking about thats not gonna work you plant grass now while its hot if you plant in august like i was suggesting that the grass wouldnt grow and id be taking her money.. I bit my tongue literally looked at all of them... told them my estimates are free... my times valuable... yall have a nice day.. kept my composure walked back to true while they were asking where are you going i ignored them and drove off... city people think they know everything of course it was in a half millon dollar neighborhood with some upity people. I am proud of myself for not exploding with the 4 letter words that kept coming to my tongue. Lady called and left message said i will just deal with you there not paying for it i am... i didnt call her back let someone else have that headache. :mad: :mad: :mad:

I guess I'm at the age that I don't do custom anything. I'll help my neighbors and friends and there is no charge, if somebody wants to hire me the answer is no. When people hire you they are asking "will you put what I want done ahead of what you're doing". If my friends and neighbors need help we'll work 24 hours a day, but when it is done the charge is zero. That just where I'm at now, 30 years ago that was all different. You just reach different stages in your life.

I kinda have to charge people and schedule there work before mine to an extent thats my job lol I own a tree service/landscaping/excavation business. I just really hate dealing with home owners and im thinking seriously about just doing commercial business only.

Not exactly like your deal, but it kinda reminds me of a guy I have been dealing with. He is a friend of a friend, he is a rich city guy with a farm and a farm hand stealing from him so our friend got me the job of getting the last of his cattle sold, he had somebody offer him 600$ a head trying to rip him off, so I charged him 450$ to haul the 2 loads of the yearlings, 80 mile round trip times 2, and at the Salebarn where I am good friends with the owners and buyers I got him about 850 a head, pretty good difference on 40 of them. That was 6 weeks ago, in between then and now he has been having us look at some dirt work he wants done, and hauling some landscape rocks to a lake house for him, we go look at these rocks and the biggest ones are well over a ton, and all he has to unload them with at the lake house is a small cat skid steer, so the job of hauling the rocks includes, taking our backhoe to load them, make one trip with a dump truck and tag trailer load of them about 70 miles each way, load the next load of bigger rocks and the backhoe on the trailer so we can then unload them, and make the trip again, we tell him 1600$ to do this and he says your kidding me, I'll have my landscaper do it, we'll okay buddy, your landscaper don't have anything big enough to do it so you can pay him to get someone that can do it and pay both of them what we were going to do it for. And this guy is a multi millionaire, he told me a month ago my cattle hauling check was in the mail and it wasn't sent until last Friday. So he is another one of those rich people you can't afford to work for. Well that was a long story that didn't have a lot to do with yours, but you can see I go they the same kind of thing with people everyday.

yea its similar those rich people are something i tell ya .. because you are rich does not mean you know everything. It also makes me mad they never want to pay.

Rich people have cost my family more than anything, we did a big job in 08 for 8 investors all either million or billionaires, and at the end when we gave them there last 80k$ bill they just told us they weren't putting anymore money into it because of the economy . One of them was a US senator from VA and we were told by one of the other investors that we knew a little better, that if we tried to do anything to them that they would make the rest of our lives hell, that didn't stop us from trying but we didn't ever get our money.

yea well when people do wrong it will come back whether on them or someone in there family i try not to do anyone wrong to people and help people when i can. That sucks about the $$

Sounds to me like it ain't her fault she lives next door to an a$$hole. She called and set it straight. That would have been enough for me. Besides if you don't do the job you will never get the chance to prove him wrong! :D

Without knowing the people I would agree with 3way. Seems like the lady was trying to do right.
Not all rich people or city people are obnoxious. Good and bad in every crowd.

Yes, but why punish her for having shytt head neighbors . I kind of feel sorry for her too and it sounds like she obviously knows that skyhightree1 is the expert in this area, not her nosy neighbors .

I know, I always do. There was a little more to it on this guy as for why I didn't, but since this I have said sevarel times it will never happen again.

dun that was hitting the nail right on the head and knowing those people they will say I sprayed chemicals and messed there yard up or did something and try to sue me for some bs sometimes the lil bit of money you would make on a job just isnt worth the potential headache down the road. I am not rich and cant afford to not do jobs but that one has the makings of some serious bs to come.

Normally I consider things like a broken leg and a crop in the field or you have the flu and need to load cattle, those kinds of things, but for you Isom I may bend the rules a little :lol2: .

We got a PIA guy up here. Bought a farm/ranch and thinks his crap don't stink.
Has sued our county trying to get them to abandon a county road. Has told people he will just keep suing the county until they run out of money and he wins. So far the county won the first trial, the appeal and the second appeal.
Revenge is best served cold.
When ever he has a fire the fire fighters fight it right up to his boundary line and then we are done until it crosses unto some one else's property. It has been suggested that this guy is starting these fires himself. Won't let anyone near where they start.
