Not where you are
For those of you with kids at home, younger ones, what do you normally spend on them for Christmas? I have two daughters and I give 'em each a heifer of their choice, and we spend about a $100 a piece on them besides that at Christmas time. I don't want to give them everything they want so I figure if they don't get a whole lot then they'll appreciate it more.??>

Sounds like good reasoning to me. We try to limit it to this as well. We sometimes add to this if we find something that we think they really need - which will through us over the limit just a bit. We have a big family so when its over they end up getting more than they need and sometimes more than they deserve.

Every family, about 3, Christmas get-together names are drawn for the kids, and gifts are exchanged. Usually through this kids get some type of toy or fun thing. So at our house mom and dad usually get them clothes they are needing to get through school til summer. Santa usually brings each kid "the special gift they really want" (within reason ;-) )

I have 2 daughters at home and 2 from a previous marriage. I think my wife spends about 200.00 on the two that are at home and about 125 on the other two (reason being they get a lot of stuff from their mothers family)--But a lot of the 200 dollars is spent on clothes and stuff they need I never enter into that area,I'm not that strong.
NOTE
I'm very grateful to my wife she always kept the relationship open with my first two kids, and when they were at our house if there was 1 apple it was always cut 4 ways; And those kids love her dearly. I think they visit her more than me when they come around. Their 21 and 23 years old now, they were 3 and 1 when my wife first met them

I get the grandkids whatever they want for christmas  ...I can't help it...I always said I wouldn't spoil them, but that was before I actually had any grandchildren :P ...my kids get mad at me for spoiling the grandchildren, but oh well...I can spoil them for at least one day for Christmas, but after that, i'll put em back to work when they come over

not sure how much I spend on each one, as I buy things through the year, if I see something and think Oh! Wendy or Natasha would like that I get it and put it in the cupboard, Robert has more spent on him as he is younger and spoilt rotten, by his Dad  usually with boys toys, it is so as he can play with him so he says.(big kid at heart). :santa:

Each year, we have put a "spending cap" on what to spend on each of the 5 kids...but, now we have a granddaughter (3 years old) and another due in April!! We still try and keep things in reason for the 3 that are at home!! At the price of toys and such, it can be tough, but we really do try! Usually get a "santa wish list" from each and let them know that they will probably not get everything on the list, so keep it short, sweet and what they really, really want! Our best bets in the past have been tack, chaps, new cowboy hats, sleds and inner tubes for all the snow!! :D

Thants the point right...spoil em and send em home. My dad raised me Marine style (guess thats why I joined) and was always super strict. NOW when he is around my kids he is a mush. He gives em whatever, spoils em, you name it. Then he looks at me and still says 'go do that' or whatever all gruffled.

Asked the youngest, the self proclaimed computer geek away at school, if he wanted a calf for Christmas...he wanted a PS-3 whatever that is.
The bride has all her shopping done already and we have agreed to get each other replacement heifers this year....yeah right, if there isn't something gold and sparkling in her stocking I'll hear about it for months.
Have no idea what was spent on the family, Susie starts her shopping the day after Christmas and continues at every sale she finds all year long.

This is the first Christmas for us as grandparents. We got a grandson in early July and a graddaughter in late October. This is going to be interesting.

Tuesday we went to Fort Worth and shopped a bit. $650 worth. I anticipate about another $2K but I also buy for nieces and nephews etc.

The boss lady (grandma) needs to get a good Christmas gift this year. I am stumped. She's already said no more new jewelry years back. Anyone got any suggestions?

Of course she said "no more jewelry". Buy jewelry. If she exchanges it, I was wrong.

how about a video camera, so she can film their first steps and capture their first words. they are fun and you can look back in years to come and relive it all over again.

She already has a couple of those. Thank you tho. Keep them coming. There's has to be something. It needs to be something for her exclusively - not for the house or for "us" or anything I may have use of.

boogie - find a nice spa, not just for her but for her and her girlfriends and or daughters/d-in-law, a couple to a few, limo pick-up, the whole deal.... treat her to the "GRAND" ma treatment... what lady does not appreciate the massage, the pedicures, etc, etc.... Nothing better than creating memories.

Preferably cast iron, won't break when you clobber someone, ahem!
