Parents Jailed For Children Wearing Shock Collars

CUMBERLAND GAP, Tenn. - The Claiborne County sheriff's office said the abuse happened at Wayne and Rebecca Burkhart's Cumberland Gap home.

Police said Wayne Burkhart would make his children wear an electric shock collar for dogs, when they misbehaved.

Investigators said his wife, Rebecca, violated her duty as a mother, by failing to report the crimes.

The department of children's services took the Burkhart children, who range in age from 11 to 18, into its care.

Did the officials check to see if the children actually needed the collars or did they just assume the parents were being abusive and not doing this to keep the children at home and out of trouble??????

I wouldn't think shock collars are any worse than those "plowlines" that were put across my backside when I was a kid?

I have had a few that I would like to see in a shock collar. :shock:

I hate those leashes. The last kid I saw in one was at the dentist's office. I say if you treat a kid like a dog he'll behave like one.

This thread reminds me of a visit to a tenant once.

I drove up to the house and got out of the truck and headed to the door to see "Doug".

When I passed his truck, a small voice says; "Pssssssssst!, Mr. Mike"!

I turned around and looked in the back of Dougs truck and there were two of his boys, about 6 and 10 year olds, locked up in each of the two dogboxes.

The youngest says, "Let us out", Please Mr. Mike, lets us out".

I asked how long they had been in there. One said "Bout 3 hours" at the exact same time the other said "Just a few minutes". I had to laugh.

I walked on to the door and Doug walked out. I asked him what the boys had done this time.

"Not much", he said, "this time they only dropped two of my new puppies in the well".

Seemed like a fitting sentence.

Either 3 hours, or just a few minutes. :lol:

Had anyone else found those boys in that dogbox, Doug might have been in trouble.

They grew up to be fine boys....................

Oh! I would have liked a few shock collars for some of the kids I have taught.
