There is a friend of mine from church who went to a branding this year and cooked for them. He told me about going to it and what a social and cultural event it was to watch. How everyone was friendly and worked together. Then he told what he cooked. Chicken fajita. Chicken to a bunch of cowboys at a branding?!!! I told several cowboys at church. They all replied he did what. Talk about social blunders. I am sure they ate it and said nothing because they were being polite. At a branding you serve beef. One time I was at a branding and there was a choice, beef or elk. Either is acceptable but never chicken.

That reminds me of a friend who told me they had a dairy association meeting at a local restaurant years ago that gave them margarine to put on their bread.

You don't criticize the cook. But I do know people who when the branding was done would just loaded up and left. Or maybe just ate a little desert. I wasn't at the branding so I don't know who was there.
I do know at our branding the wife had those pre-made hamburger patties. We will never serve them again. Nobody said anything but the wife and I agreed that they were terrible. Some brandings put on a big feed. Others it is something more simple. One of the guys at church said he worked a 300 calf branding. When it was over they handed out baloney sandwiches. Probably had trouble getting help the next year.

I’m a beef producer through and through, but I eat chicken with regularity. I take a lot of opportunities to eat chicken when at a restaurant because I have and prepare plenty of beef at home.
I have always been of the opinion that I want chicken producers to eat beef, so it’s not an abomination for me to eat chicken. Seems it is a lot better to serve chicken to a bunch of beef producers, but only serve beef to non producers that have no skin in the game.

Although I love beef... with the Alpha Gal syndrome, having chicken is the only viable option for me now at things like this...
I am like @OBAX , (when I could eat beef) I have plenty at home so often ate seafood when out since I did not "grow it"... I also raised my own chicken and pork so they were not a "treat" to eat when out...
Yep, want the public to eat beef, and those with dietary problems, do appreciate the opportunity to eat like normal when something else if offered.
But at a branding, I think having both would have been "less offensive"..

I used to get upset with things like margarine at dairy meetings... but right now, with this AGS, I can't eat butter either... and I work in the dairy industry... it's a real kick in the teeth to not be able to eat all the "REAL FOOD", I raise and work with....

Serving chicken at a branding is simply a social blunder. They are not a short order meal. two choices, take it or leave it. I have seen lots of people simply leave once the work is done. I have done that myself. Was it because of the food? Who knows. But serve the wrong food too often and help will get short.

That reminds me of a story about an Angus meeting that was served CHB by the caterers.
It was said that they liked the beef but don’t know if that was before or after they found out it was CHB and not CAB.
Either way the irony would have been priceless.

I'll take fajitas anyway I can get them. Beef is better but I'm going to douse it with so much hot sauce it doesn't really matter

A creamy cake and a cup of coffee would do me fine.

I don't think I have been to a branding here with no beer. Although they don't have so much as to interfere with the branding. I have been to a few like that. But here it is all neighbors and people act like they are there to work. Not there for the party.

I would appreciate a cold beer with ANY food offered after the work is done. After a long day of working, it would sure hit the spot!

I would probably bring my own because I have grown to love the thick non filtered wheat beer, Belgium or German style please.
