I have a 2002 chevy z71. Replaced the back brakes on it a couple of months ago. It wouldn't pass inspection for the emergency brake. Brought it to 2 different places. The second place I brought it too the guy asked me before he started if I had any work done on the emergency brake. These 02 models are supposedly notorious for the emergency brake going bad. The emergency brakes are wierd on this model. Can't just tighten the cable. Anyhow I fixed it and passed inspection. Now I have to do the front brakes. Started hearing some wierd noises while driving and figure bearings are shot. Turns out the bearings are incased in a hub and run $150 per. Thats $300 for the front. Before I found all this out I took the wheel off this morning to discover that to get the caliper off I need a star bit to get the bolt off. So when I go to buy the parts for the brake job I pick up a set of star bits from autozone. Guy told me the set I bought would have the bits for any brake job. Forgot to mention they don't carry the bearings in stock. Get back to the house where my truck is on jack stands and check to make sure the star bit will fit. Nope. I have t50 and t60 and those don't work. Back to the store. Bought a slightly more comprehensive set and find out its a t55 that does the trick. Put the truck back together and will pick up the parts tomorrow and try again. Wasted DAY.
