well chevy is back to their old ways building garage mans companions.my bro has a 2008 1500 chevy with 80,0000 miles on it.an so far he has to replace both front hubbs an bearings.an now 1 of his auto door locks is messed up.i doubt if his truck will last another 70,000 miles.
 
Yes sir. I'm on my third instrument cluster in my '04 at $500 per pop. Wife's '03 Envoy needs an instrument cluster at $1500. My truck keeps spiking the engine temperature and no one seems to be able to find the problem. Probably instrument cluster number 4 since it's not pullin' any codes. The temp gauge goes from stone cold to 260 and right back down to cold again in less than a second. Last place I had them look at it I was told it was a thermostat (seems the Duramax has two?) and it was replaced but less than two blocks away it hit full scale again. Thermostats don't react that fast anyway but the dealer swore that was the problem - BS.

Next truck will be a Ford I guess. I know they all have problems from time to time but it's the way the factory handles the problem that sets them apart. GM had a campaign on the instrument clusters and the first one was replaced on their dime after a lot of nasty letter writing. Everyone I know who owns an '03 thru 06 or so has had instrument cluster problems and GM knows about it.
 
ford has always been the better truck in my eyes.weve been ford people for years.an my brother hates fird an drove cheys for years.will see if he buys another chevy when the time comes though.

My son fixes several '99 up GM speedometers and all gages weekly.
They can be fixed without replacing the cluster.
He fixes them for anyone including shops & GM dealerships.
He said he could fix temp.gage on the one '04 truck & the cluster on the '03 Envoy.
Just bring them to Middle Tn.
Prices start around $100.00
 
Ford has always been a better truck, you need to wake up. In 2003 Ford came out with a 6.0 power stroke diesel engine for their heavy duty pickup trucks. Anyone that owned one built before 2006 had a piece of junk, ford had to buy back 700 - 6.0 diesel powerd trucks in that time frame. I have drove millions of miles in a ford trucks, but the early 6.0's were no good.

One thing I've discovered is that some trucks just don;t feel comfortable and others fit like an old shoe the first time you climb in. chevys alwasy feel uncomfortable and awkward, FORDS are just natural feeling to me. I haven;t driven a new(ish) dodge in 25 years so don;t know where they fit in. To me, even the Ford Rangers fit just like the F series trucks.
 
Replacement of clusters in those date ranges are paid for by Chevy... they acknowledge the issue... and our replacement by the Chevy dealer had no issues.

F.O.R.D. = Found on Road Dead --> my personal experience only... nothing like a heater core puking up crud all over the floormats... I still can't get that smell out of my nose and it was over 10 years ago...

Dodges -- never felt comfortable in them

I'll stick with Chevy/GMC
 
Chevy is not the only one with cluster problems. Seems everyone has a problem with stepper motors that move the needle.
 
Each has their faults. Been a Chevy man for a while but picked up an 07 tundra for a good price, seems good so far. Dad has an 07 1500 chevy with over 100k on it, traded an 03 1500 with over 250k no major problems at all on either one. Drove Fords at work for years, the seats are horrible.
 
well 1 of chevys probs is their electronics are tied togather,thus if 1 thing messes up itll mess something else up.so brother decided he would turn off the electric doorlocks,because they are tied to the tranny.an he does alot of going from park to drive.thus burning the doorlocks out.

On the older chevys 00-04, maybe the newer ones, you could set those door locks so they wouldn't auto lock on you.
 
well its all conected to onstar.an he has checked an itll cost him $75 to have the door locks turned off.

Thats how I feel about Chevrolet/GMC. It just feels right. I've owned a Ford, Dodge, Mitsubishi and about 10 Chevrolets and I don't want anything else.
 
In my younger days I was sales manager for a large used auto dealership for several years. From my experience, I don't want a Dodge, I would take a Ford if I had to, but I definitely prefer GM. And I have owned all of them.
 
Been waiting for Toyota to enter the heavy duty 3/4 and 1 ton pickup truck market. I was hoping they would team up with Cat. I read something a few years ago about Toyota teaming up with Hino, but Cat would be better....still waiting.

They have already teamed with Hino on some larger truck chassis. Not sure exactly what brand of heavy trucks they are used in, but they built a factory near hear a couple years back. They are also building chassis for the Tundras.
