cheap baler

Was looking for a cheap used round baler. Found case/ih 8460 for 3000.00. Anyone have any info, good or bad, on this model? What other models would you recomend for reasonable price. Not going in to custom baling just my own 50 ac.

Bought a JD 410 last year at a sale for $1500. Had to put belts on it - $800. Runs fine. Your price seems right if it's fairly operational. No experience with that particular unit.

Hook it up to a PTO and let er run a while observe the pick up and the how smooth the belts run. You hear unusual squeaks, grinds and rattles it may need some work.

Vermeer 605 F would be a good baler in that price range. MF has baler that is just the same as a 605F think it may be MF1580 or something close to that. Only difference is the baler is painted MF colors VS Vermeer color. I ran a 605F for many years good baler, couple years ago moved up to a 605K
Also JD 530 balers ae good, have friends that run them and they like them. A JD 535 is another good baler but will probably be moe than 3000.
Do not have experience running Case/IH units so no help there and I know there allot of other brands that are good balers, I just do not have experince with them
What ever you get, make sure and check the bearings after a few bales or letting it run a while. I have an RF thermometer and that makes checking bearings allot easier. Just Aim and it tells you how hot one is running.

For what it is it's a good little baler. I've had one for about 14 years. It's a generic baler, same as New Idea 4643. Doesn't like to bale too green. I've replaced one bearing, few pickup teeth and the belts in that time frame. Still running it. Easy to work on also. I put hyd. tie & baler kicker on mine.
