charolais age

Help Support CattleToday:

Cattle can be properly aged by checking their teeth. But, I'm "old" at this, and I couldn't tell you how to read their teeth. The tail is a good indication. As a calf, the tail is usually slightly below their hock. As the animal ages, his tail grows longer. A yearling's tail should still be just a few inches below his hock. If near the ground, he's 2 years ++. Size is not an indication, because he could have been stunted by not receiving proper nutrition to grow. Jeanne
