Concerning a long 460 but they did put them on many different makes and models. Has anyone changed to the spin-on type?

I saw an adapter that screws into the existing head but wasn't sure.

I despise the deal I've been working with. There's only 1,600 o-rings/gaskets per filter.

Yes, today is 4-23. Was going for good luck. 🤪

As long as you have the vertical space to run the adaptor (it adds probably 1" in length) it makes filter changes much easier. No more holding slippery square cut o-rings in place and hoping they stay there.

I believe the wix number is 3003-0124 for the adaptor.

There's a few different M16x1.5 thread filters that will fit like a Baldwin BF7772. Or in my case because mine are all space limited I run a Bobcat 6647773 because it's a short filter/water seperator.

I've never had any problem with the CAV filters, I like them and they are cheap.

Same here. All of my old Fords have that style, I just crossed them over to the Baldwin equivalent and order from Shoup each year during one of their sales. There's 2 square o-rings, 2 rounds and the one on the bottom drain if needed. If they won't stay in place during assembly, just put a dab of grease on them.

I normally don't have trouble either, but this round has been a bear. Wasted 2 filters and 2 chinese made glass bowls trying to get them to seal. Finally tracked down an original glass bowl and it sealed up like it was suppose to.

I reckon it was the Chinese bowls not formed just right? If I hadn't found the 40 year old glass bowl I was going to order a metal version or the adapter. But thankfully it worked out. Had me in quite the tizzy. lol

Gotta do two more this weekend. Now I'm dreading it.

You're worth your weight in gold, my friend.

Spin on filter the seal is retained. Can change them and not take a diesel bath. They seal everytime. And just about anybody can change them with their bare hands (even my 7yo boy).

Out of my 5 Fords there's only 1 left with the factory filter setup, but adaptors are on the shelf.

Was curious on cost. The Cav filter in a Baldwin is $11.75, and the spin on Baldwin 7772 is $12.97, and the spin on 644773 is $13.69 locally.

So less than $2 difference in filter price is nothing.
$8.99 for a Delphi to suit the CAV and our dollar is pretty low here. An equivalent to suit a spin on adaptor would be around the $30 mark for a Baldwin here. I just bought a Baldwin spin on type for my generator.

If the difference was $9 vs $30 then maybe I would keep dealing with the CAV filters. But for the $2-3 difference here I'll go with the tool less, o-rings less spin on filter.

Also of note on the dual element CAV filter bases on some ford tractors the tie bolt can not be removed because of interference. So to change that little o-ring under the bolt head when it leaks requires taking the filter housing loose and sometimes the fuel lines. Giant pain in the arse that is a non-issue with the spin on.
