Cattle Sale Tracking

Sold my first calf at the auction yesterday. :) Attended the auction, but was amazed the whole time and couldn't keep track of everything. Should get the check in the mail Saturday, but I think the calf sold for between $1.60 to $1.70 per pound. My grandfather sold two and all three were in the same price range. Going to the auction just gave me the urge to get more heads, but I got no room. :(

I would like to keep track of my sales and thinking of creating an Excel spreadsheet. Does anyone know of a spreadsheet that already exists or currently uses that can be cleared and sent to me?

Not trying to be a smartazz or anything, but why would you need to create a spreadsheet to track one sale? Your best bet would be to purchase an accounting software like QuickBooks to track everything associated with your operation... farming expenses, sales, etc., etc..

Sounds like you are off to a good start and I would encourage you to keep all of your financials in order... no matter what size your operation!

I was thinking of the spreadsheet as a history tracker. Something I can use to track my sales. With a spreadsheet I can generate graphs that shows peaks and valleys. I don't currently do anything for financials, but am considering it. I have two heifers (1 should breed this year and the other next year), but my grandfather has one heifer, four cows, and one bull. My heifers share the same pasture, so I use his bull. My grandfather owns all the equipment, so for now I have no "expense" and won't be making all that much.
