I've been reading the post about face flies. I'm picking up 14 heifers today (5 wts.) and I'm thinking of putting up two t-posts with a rub where they will have to go through to get water. Is it just a crap shoot on what chemical to put on it? I've heard of diesel but not sure what to put on it.

We use Permectrin II in diesel. The first thing I would do is pour then with something like Ultraboss or Cylence.
The problem I've found with using T-posts is that as the cattle go through the rub/wipe the posts bendand the rub/wipe gets closer to the ground.

I'm glad this subject came up. We have a small dairy with the cows and larger heifers running together using rotational grazing. The cows come into the stantions to be milked and we can cover them with a hand sprayer. I bought a 10 ft rub hoping to also get some coverage on the heifers. We set up gates to make them go thru, but they won't use it unless we make them. How long does it take for them to figure out what it's for? The first few times it was like the limbo! lol

With animals that aren;t used to it I hang it real high so that it is there but they aren;t anywhere near it. Igradually lower if over a week or so until it's at the height I want.

T posts are totally inadequate. You will need something much stronger. Also I would suggest using swing chain on the ends so you can easily adjust the length and height. Good luck. Jim
