Steve asked me what a heifer calf is worth this fall. Just got an update from the barn in town selling today.

23 Tan heifers AVG 504 lbs Price $2.00 CDN or $1.52 US

If I get more updates, I'll post them.
 
That's 30 or 40 cents higher than they are bringing in a lot of the US. 5 weight heifers 1.10-1.15. 5 weight steer last 1.15-1.25 in Kentucky and expecting them to be 3-6 cents cheaper today.

Triple Ugh! When are they gonna hit 0. Heck how they are falling around here might be pretty soon. Like eating beef go buy you 1 at the auction or heck just come by here but don't buy it all at the Grocery.

I heard that, I haven't seen feeders under a dollar in a while! We will be retaining most of our heifers this year and probably next.

Many folks are. Are you planning to flip the cow herd or increase herd size?

Hard to see how increased heifer retention and cheap feed will help beef prices.

Going to increase my herd size, Im not too terribly worried about the prices now just as long as history repeats itself, they will be going back up eventually.

Old Timer told me the same thing yesterday at the store, he also said watch gas prices also. When gas is cheap, cows are cheap. He's been running cattle for longer than I've been alive, may be something to it.
 
I'd be willing to bet that commodity markets are related (cattle, fuel, grain). All driven by supply and demand. I'm not an expert but have open ears to it.
