I have learned how to use the camera now, but I will start off with a picture from the old camera since it was one of the last pictures it would focus on.
It has been raining her for the last few days, no complaints, but I don't want to get my camera wet.

Here is a picture of Nell's heifer calf this year. Her name is Molly. In this picture she is 2 mons old. When it stops raining, I will get a current picture of her as she will be 6 months old. I wish that this little heifers rump was even with her withers. I am going to do a dance and maybe her back legs will slow down a little bit so the front legs will catch up. Or, vice versa......

This is Rachel, a yearling; she is Molly's aunt. Or shall I say that Molly's grandmother is Rachel's Mom. They are out of the same family of cows.
The one that is walking around the back as I started snapping pictures, is Weeone's daughter.
Both are 17 months old.
Notice the army worms have come and gone..... :yuck:

Nice. You go girl!!! :D You been saying that a lot lately.

I hope you show us more of your cattle and farm. Your land and farm sounds somewhat like mine. Good pastures, clay soil and very few rocks.

I find Molly rather ordinary looking at this point, I guess I'll have to wait until I see more pictures... I don't mind the rump being a little higher as long as it's not too much. Rachel looks like she's going to be a nice cow though

I got dibs on Rachel.
The army worms are still in full force here. :devil2:

Thank you.
I am going to try to get some more of the group tomorrow. Then everyone can tell me they are too fat and they need to lose weight. :lol2:
I will set my stationary bike up outside and see if any are interested in it. What else can I do?
Fortunately, the Army worms only ate 1/3 of their pasture, and the clover is putting back out. They have increased their intake of the hay.

I don't mind a young heifer who looks a little bit like she's running down hill.

I've heard it said that this is a highly desired trait, that it indicates something about the hormonal balance of the young female, especially if her shoulder blades are loose and are every so slightly above her spine.

Quite separately, I was at a ranch about 18mo ago, and the guy was showing me some of his heifers and younger cows ... we talked about this one particular bred heifer he liked a lot and that it looked like she was running down hill to me; it took a good 15 minutes of us standing there in the freezing cold pointing at various parts of the heifer and the ground she was standing on before we each understood what the other was saying. When he got what I was trying to get at, he said it was something he looked for in his young females.

Anyhow, I'm not sure if I agree with that observation/belief or not ... just passing on a comment from a couple of someone elses who believe it passionately.

I certainly wouldn't want the OPPOSITE... running uphill is harder for them evidently!

Here's one of mine I quite like, she's 1/4 Saler... She could show her Gelbvieh a little more, but she's got nice length and walks very smoothly and light footed.

She actually IS a little downhill here.
Sorry for sidetracking your thread Chuckie
