Well 7 years in on this farm I am finally going build my permanent handling facility. Been roughing it with panels and made do but time to get a little upgrade so I can work them like I want when I want. I know how I want my alleys etc. but what size would you make the main catch area for say a max of about 40 pairs/ 90 6-7wt. stockers? Thanks

My outside holding pen is about 125' x 125'. I have put 60 or so cows in it with 40 or so calves. From there I work them into the main set of pens under cover where their are smaller sorting pens, a tub & squeeze chute, and a load out alley. The alley out of the chute can put the animal back into a sorting pen, the outside holding pen or a 4 acre pasture.

Make the catch pen too big. Easier to pen cows in a larger area and then funnel down from there. A line fence for a wing on one side and a short wing on the other is worth the effort. Our first catch pens are all 3 to 4 acres in size and can be fed in for overnight.
