Just bought a three and a half month old holstien bull calf that hasn,t been castrated or dehorned yet. My question is what is the best way to castrate him, clamp, cut or band. Thank you for your replies.

Have the vet come out and use a skull scoop on the norns and at the same time have him knife him.

At the Farm Progress Show this week, there was one of the hndlers at the cattle handling demonstrations who was advocating dehorning by banding of horns up to about 3" diameter.

Has anyone here ever used a larger bander (like a callicrate) for dehorning? She said to give them a tetanus shot when banding and the horns "fall off" in about a month.
