case/IH 485 noisey clutch?

I just bought a 1985 or 86 485. I noticed that the clutch makes a bit of noise when its in neutral, push the pedal down 1/4" and it goes away. I asked 2 different guys that are knowledgeable and both said that was "normal" for a 485. What causes the noise and should I be worried about it. Also my neighbor has the same tractor but is a later model, mine has larger tires and rollbar. Why did Case make the same tractor with two different size tires and rollbars? How do I find the year made from the ser.#? Thanks for any help.

You might try pulling the inspection plate on the bottom of the case and greasing the release bearing. I usually don't ever replace the plate so that I don't neglect greasing in the future.

How long did your release bearing last after you started greasing it ? Did you figure out how to find the year made from the ser.#?
