Guy close by me priced his Case IH 485 a 1986 model with 2800 hours. It has a newer Allied loader with bucket, spear and forks but they are not quick attach., pin on. Been a while since I saw the tractor but looked ok last time I saw it. Says one new rear tire and the other 85%. Looking for something that would help me out during hay season so swapping implements would not be done so much. Raking and tedding would be a big help. Also the loader for unloading hay when I bale off the farm. Would mainly be handling 4 x 5 bales. I raked some hay with a friends 685 once and it was ok, would take a while to get use to it. Looked on Fastline and he seems in line on price but then it is 20 years old. Thoughts on price?

They were good tractors. I'm pretty sure you could change that loader to a quick attach cheap enough. I think they had a dry clutch. I'd move hay in low range, and save the clutch. Parts have gotten high on the stuff from that era. Same could be said of all manufacturers though.

Clutches aren't expensive, there are aftermarket ones available, same for starters, etc. I heard the IH's had better than average hydraulics and lifting power compared to similar tractors of the era... we're actually looking for exactly that kind of tractor. Around here it would probably fetch over $10,000, so if you can get it for less than $8,000 I think it would be a score.. a lot depends on the condition. Our 684 has 5600 hours and runs great.
I have an 885 MFD with IH loader, not sure on hours as I don't think meter is accurate. Pretty solid tractor and was easy to work on and really liked it but I wanted a cab and bought a new Kubota. I went fishing on Craigslist and listed it for $14,000 last spring and had a few people out to look at it but no serious offers. I'm probably going to trade it in on a baler this fall and dealer will give me $8500 for it.

We bought a Case 485 about 3 years ago. It had 1200 hours, I think its a case 2200 loader? Either way its not a quick attache. I made spears and a couple things using 2" recievers as a fast attached. I use a ratchet rake on the bucket and basically use this thing like a little bull dozer clearing brush, mesquite trees etc. It gets abused and has held up very well. We paid 9500.00 for it when we got it
