Have you ever had nites , when you wake at 1 or 2 am wide awake ready to get up, I have been doing this for some time, it is not worry or stress And I am full filled in my life. it's just the old internal wake up clock tells me it's time to get up. When I was a teenager I could sleep 12 hours a nite now it's 3 or 4 hours A nite .
I have always heard the older you get the less sleep you will need. I never though I would be 70 years of age and be like this , yesterday started checking cows at 8:00 am then was on the tractor till 7:00 pm . I know a man who used to cut my hay that would be in the field before the sun came up and leave after the sun went down , he did this 7 days week , now he is 83 although not baling hay any longer , he still has the same work habits.
I notice all the young people that are so over weight that they waddle when they walk , how can they even hold down a job being so overweight, and at what age will their health start failing them and who will take care of them.
They walk around all day sucking on soft drink , they can't go past a fast food joint without stopping to eat,
I was raised on 3 meals a day and no in between meals, we drank water not sugar drinks,
How as a country have we developed into a such a way of life,
That you all for listening to my ramblin because I am not about to go wake my wife up and ramble to her at this time of nite. :cboy:

Mothers Day is not the day I would pick to wake up Grumpy either :lol2:
Yes I struggle with my sleep parameters also. Seems to occur in series for days or weeks, to sleep for 3 to 4 hours and wake up wide awake, no matter what time I go to bed.

I fight the same battle many a night I will take a walk with the rifle checking cows
or up in the shop working on something.
Now about 1 PM I am taking a nap thought that was the problem.
It wasn't still 4 to 5 hours max at night it is just an old man thing.

As far as young people being overweight its an epidemic.
I don't remember one fat kid when I was in school.
Most today can't see their toes when standing just another example
of our societies poor parenting skills.
It is just easier for parents today to stuff a Big Mac in the kid than prepare a proper meal.
That goes along with the majority have not been taught the word no.
Growing up there was a big breakfast and then time to get it, for lunch
we had a left over sweet tater or cornbread from the night before.
After supper if you wanted a snack it was an apple or a glass of sweet milk.

I think it's the quality of sleep you get, not how much. I've never been able to sleep more than 4-5 hours a night. And if I take a nap it screws a whole week of sleep up. Fat kids have poor eating habits for the most part. Soda pop, and energy drinks have taken over cigarettes as the bad habit for kids. And don't fool yourself pot smoking is making a big come back in the high school age kids.

This all goes back to why our nations youth IQ and health is failing with each generation High.
The majority spit the child out and haul them to a facility to take care of them in their formative years.
As soon as they pick the kid up they quickly pawn it to a different event or place a video game in their hands.
Very little parenting time is spent with the child in the crucial first four years as this is when the blank sheet
of paper is written on.
It takes both parents to fulfill this obligation they brought into the world.
Mass confusion has taken on a new definition in the USA = Fathers Day.

Ditto on the lack of sleep. Always thought it was an old age thing. As far as the pot thing goes I also always thought our leaders in Texas had more sense than they exhibit right now. I just read they have cleared the first hurdle in legalizing pot in Texas. Said it would add billions to the state coffers. Since when do we put the health and safety of our children behind state funds? Maybe they want to spend that new found income on education in Texas (not).

When my youngest was in high school his mother and I took a tour of a new campus they had just opened. Walking down the hall toward the cafeteria we passed about 50 vending machines full of junk. I asked about it and was told the vendors paid a great deal of money for the right to place those machine on campus.

I must be the exception to the rule. I go to bed at 9 PM almost every night and it takes me about 2 minutes to go to sleep. Then am up at 5AM. I seldom wake up during the night and still don't have to get up during the night to go the bathroom. I can't find any reason to stay up any later at night and no reason to stay in bed any longer in the morning. I like to think I'm just blessed in so many ways.

Anyone, can eat as much as they want, and as much of what they want with little effect, IF they get enough exercise to burn it off.

Sounds like me. I hit the sack between 10 and 11 and sleep thru the night most nights unil 6:30am. Vey rarely get up and wake up at the ame time every day.

I have always attributted it to clean living and a clear conscience

Everyone seems to forget the exercise part, and would rather blame the food.

I figured it was the having to get up to pee every couple of hours that did it. After the second time I can;t see much sense in going back to sleep since I know I'll just have to get up to pee again shortly.

Wont argue about sedentary lifestyle being a contributing factor.
It is not the amount of food but the kinds consumed today as well.
Fast food when I was a kid was a sweet tater, piece of hot water corn bread sitting on the back of the
stove or a piece of fruit.
If you didn't want that tough until supper the soft drink of my day was water.

Dam right Vern....some of us have a clear conscious. Don't even set an alarm.

I don't think that it is true that a person needs less sleep as they grow older.
You still need the sleep. It is just harder to sleep through the night. It is something that just happens.
Isn't much fun to know that you need the rest and can't sleep.
We go to bed before 10 pm and some nights I finally fall asleep after 1 am. The alarm goes off at 4:30 am. I am dragging around 3 pm and there are so many chores to do when I get home : (

TexasBred, you are fortunate.
