Went to check cows and found a 3yo laying down with bloody mucas discharge behind her. She was showing no labor signs. I did a check her rectually, calf was in correct position. She is not pushing.
No sign of prolapse. Running diarrehia. No fever.
I have oxytocin.
Need help!!!!!!
Should I go ahead and pull the calf?
I did not check her vaginally.
 
Glove up and go in so you can really feel what is going on .

If the calf is ready to go and in the right position and she is still not doing anything I would definitely pull the calf.

Good luck as you probably have the calf out by now I just read your post.

Let us know what happened.
 
Wouldn't use oxytocin if she isn't dilated... at least in dogs, you can cause a uterine rupture by doing that.

Personally I'd be inclined to give her more time rather than assume she's another one of those freak occurances where the cow refuses to push.
 
That is what I would do also MM unless the calf was ready to come out and she still was doing nothing. That is why I suggested to go in vaginally and feel exactly what is going on.

That was 2 hours ago so I am sure ILH has the calf out or has momma on the right track.

Got a vet out here. The calf was backwards and was not getting the contractions triggered. Ended up using the puller on the calf, the cow was not pushing. She was 99% dilated and the hind feet were getting getting hung up and not allowing the calf to enter the birth canal.
Vet gave the cow some LA-200 to try to clear up the diarrehia and some oxytocin to get her
to clean. No fever.
Put some O-NO-MO (Orphan No More) on the calf to get the cow interested in claiming the calf. Cow was licking on her when I left. :banana:

Wow I had forgotten about O-NO_MO....haven't used it in years but did use it a couple of times and it did work. Sounds like everything is falling into place. Way to go. :clap: :clap:
