camping gear

mnmtranching,

Yes that is a pack with frame. And you can take the pack off of the frame and use the pack by itself. Since i started this thread i have found out just what Texas Ranch Man said they run about $50 which i was surpprised to find out.

I would have thought they run arround a couple hundred with the frame. I think they call them a Alice pack ? Or anyhow that is what they called them when i was in the service.

They are ideal for hiking or packing camping gear in. I found one for sale on another forum for $40 but it would cost another $20 to get it shipped. So i was considering buying it but since i can pick one up at a army surplus for about $50 i guess i will pass on it.

I have been spelling that wrong. It is ruck sack not rauk sack. I never was good at spelling !

They are pretty common if you look around. I wouldn't waste my time with a ruck, when I was in the service we all bought our own assault packs. Roomier, more comfortable to hump, and a lot more task specific. We used our rucks to collect dust in our lockers. I don't ever remember using one even when going out into the field.
