We are looking at buying an angus heifer bull and we really like the looks of this one in particular. All of his EPD's are on his papers, except his calving ease and maternal calving ease are rated as indexs. I don't understand why this is..

CED BW WW YW YH SC Doc CEM Milk $EN
I+11 -1.7 +45 +66 +.1 +.56 +13 I+11 +28 -3.01

He's in with 180 other bulls and 75% of them have calving ease EPD's over 8. Does this mean that he indexed 11 "points" higher than most of the other bulls?

Any help anyone could give me would be very much appreciated!

I believe the 11 means that's his ranking above the average for the breed. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment using this bull on heifers.

The average on Angus bulls is 5 so hes 6 above average he will make a good heifer bull if the numbers hold true he has Interium numbers so id look at his pedigree some and make sure that theres nothing up close with lots of BW or CED. By his numbers now he will do fine. He doesnt have any growth in him usually you give up something with heifer bulls but me peronally i wouldnt give up that much unless i just wanted A calf.

Great to hear! He is an Image Maker grandson and out of a Justice daughter. His actual BW was 82lbs and his actual WW was 702. His sire's CED is 14 and BW is -3.4, while his dam's CED is 7 and her BW is -.1
We had to pull almost 30% of our heifers that weren't AI'd so we're really wanting to get past that next year.
Thank you very much for your input!
