we have a new calf that will not suck a bottle.
We have been bag feeding him for a week.
Does anyone have any suggestions???
We are getting desperate.

Is this a calf that will always be fed or will he be drinking from the cow? If you're going to be feeding him maybe you can get him to drink from a bucket, put milk on your finger and stick it in his mouth when he starts sucking good on your on your finger put his mouth down in the milk till he starts to drink on his own sometimes it can take some work to get him to do this. If you keep tubing him he'll get dependent on that and won't want to drink on his own. Good luck

A few choices here - assuming the animal is healthy:

1: Feed as able

2: Force feed in hopes of it coming around - ie: tubing

3: Sell it

I am the type that tosses problems asap - no time and certainly no interest in throwing what may be ggod money after bad. Lots of potential opinions on this one and it is YOUR decision.

A tremendous amount on this topic can be found by doing a search - have a look and you will be surprized. Might be something you can use.

But ... time and money are something to be looked after. Give it a couple of days and then in my opinion - toss it if no improvement.

cowmama,

I believe shorty is on the right track.

A few more details will help.

Where's mom?

Does the calf have anything wrong with him? Does his mouth/tongue look normal?

Are you feeding him a replacement..if so what?

How old was he when you started feeding him?

Does he act hungry when it is time to feed?

How often are you feeding him?
