Calf with eye problems

I have to call around and find a vet that will see cattle, they are pretty much non existant around here. Anyway the calf is the calf I took in that needed weight an had some other issues. She is eatting well and I am slowly increasing her milk to help her pick up her weight.

THe other issue is that her eyes are a bit more sunk in then normal. It does seem as she puts on weight they are starting to pop back out. The other issue she has is her eye lashes sit down on the eyeball and are stuck to them. THe breeder cut her lashes short before I got her which seemed to help some. However they are irritating her eyes and do notice a bit of a white spot on each eye where this is happening.

LIke I said I am calling around trying to find a vet to get her in and looked at but thought I would see if you guys have any suggestions.

Oh and one other question on my other two calves. I am finally able to put them back together as the steer is finally a steer and all healed. At what age do they normally go down to one bottle a day? They both eat approximatly 1-2qt scoop of feed each a day, plus all the grass they want. They are both in excellent body condition.

The sunk in eyes could be a sign of deyhdration. We normally wean at three months. We just stop the replacer alltogether. Some people will cut down to just one a day.

That was what I was guessing. She did go off of feed for a long time. I got her up to 3 bottles a day at smaller amounts but she got lose again so will have to cut back. On the really hot days she gets electrolights as well.

Definitely sounds like dehydration on the sunken eyes. She may have pink eye as well from the constant eye irritation. JMHO.

Vet advised to give electrolights between milk feedings to increase hydration. Flush the eyes 4 times a day and apply antibiotic cream 3 times daily. If it persists past 10 days she might need to have part of her lid surgically removed to help make the eyelid pop back out.

One eye is pretty much solid white and the other is about half white so hopefully something will work. She only drank half of her electrolights at noon today so dont think she is to bad. She also does have free choice water at all times.
