Does anyone know where the town or community of Caldwell, Alabama is. I know it is in St. Clair County, Alabama.
My wife is doing some genealogy research of my Mothers family. My mother was left an orphan and knew nothing of her mother other than her name was Ludie.
Researching old Death & Census Records we discovered that My mother's mother was born in Caldwell, Alabama in 1884, Her birth name was Lutie or possibly Ludie or Ludy Thompson. She died in 1908 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when my Mother was three years old. At that time My Grand father boarded my Mother and her sister out. I never knew my mothers parents.
My Grandmother had three siblings, Nellie, Leroy and Benjamin. I never dreamed that my Grandmother was from Alabama.

I have seen the road signs to Caldwell before. It is a small community. Bet you could find someone there who knew some family history.

I had a lady show up one day looking for her family history. She had searched her last name and found several in our community. She had been given up at birth. I carried her to the local cemetery and showed her the graves of her great aunts and uncles.

Running down genealogy can be fun and infuriating and at times almost like the Twilght Zone.
When a cousin and I started years ago seemed everyone had migrated in from Ms or Al.
Dad's side was easy all the way back to England and Ireland. One side of Moms went back to Scotland we were able to put every
generation together.
The other side we have been stuck for years can't get any further back than Al. lot of it has to do with the surname
Davis just being so common. This side of the family had a knack for burying under the nickname and not proper on the headstone.
This made it impossible.

Yes they probably aren't as numerous as they are as you get further west.

Good luck with the family searc. It is interesting stuff. Each year for Christmas my mother sends out a notebook of stuff she has dug up to each of the kids.

I have been researching on lds.com, and other web sights, lots of info there, they provide the roots of the search. I have traced my Grandfather to his Grave in Holdenville, Oklahoma [1937] All I can find on my Grandmother is her Birth in Alabama [1885] and her Marriage to my Grandfather in Johnson, Texas Dec 1905. After the 1905 marriage there is no trace of my Grandmother. I'm still looking.
