CAB YG4

I e-mailed Mark Cully at CAB about 30 minutes ago about changing to YG4. Below is his response.

Stephen, The short answer to your question is no specification changes have been made. This information may have originated from minutes published from the last meeting of the CAB board of directors. In that meeting, our board instructed staff to evaluate options to modify our cutability specification (YG 3.9 or better) that may be more in line with current industry carcass weights and fabrication styles. Our staff is currently investigating these options. If any changes are made to the CAB specifications, those changes will be published as soon as they are available.

Enough with the Angus bashing MikeC everyone knows there is nothing better than a Charolais. Every Angus breeder needs to cut more bull calves, shouldn't that be EVERY Cattle breeder needs to cut more bulls. I think you have so much to offer people in this forum but I personally cant get past the hate. Frankie posts a informative white paper on marbling effects and your reply was an abstract that looked like a high school science paper. I personally have had enough of it.

One more thing I have Hereford and Angus cows and if anyone thinks that 1/2 hereford all look like they describe give me some of that to smoke. CHB is on the up and up but CAB is pulling in anything to make the grade. PLEASEEEEE. You all are on the kool aid not us.

Well, one thing is for usre.

The AAA and CAB won't figure it out. Unless of course the answer is more Angus influence and more mrabling.

That will probably be the reason.

Of course, then it might be early weaning, but with no understanding of why we have to do it to make them grade, just that this is the new way to do it.

Maybe it is less implanting.

Maybe is is because the genetics haven't trickled down.

Maybe it is because we grade differently.

Who knows? They sure don't. More concerned with looking good, making quotas and selling bulls than understanding what is going on.

He answered you in a very diplomatic manner in that they had not changed any specs, but he did not deny that some CAB accepted beef was in fact YG 4's.

Plus he also alluded that the "Specs" may change soon. What would keep them from doing it now if they needed to? You think a cattleman is going to complain if he gets paid for CAB and it's a YG 4?

Read the statement again. He told you that the specs had not "Officially" changed. He is correct. They have NOT officially changed and I never said they did.

I don't see what the big deal is. IF a carcass meets the marbling and maturity specs AND has the fancy black hide AND the Angus people are moving plenty of product, dock it for the sucky 4.5 YG, and slap a CAB label on it. I, as a consumer (and Food Giant doesn't sell CAB here anyway), don't really care how much fat the plant had to peel off the calf or if the ribeye was only 11 inches on a 1300 lb carcass or what the producer got paid for it.

No he didnt. He said they havent changed.

Saying its a diplomatic answer is crazy. We are talking about a Marketing tool, not a mideast negotiation. From a marketing standpoint accepting YG4s could be a good thing. Producers have more accepted animals which translateds into more nickles in their pockets. He would have no reason to give a diplomatic answer.
