CAB calves with horns?

I see a polled CAB cow and a polled bull throw a horned calf once in a while... The calves tend to be above average for weaning weight, and a few have a blaze on the forehead. Are this horned calves most likely from Holstein in the woodpile, or is there are there other potential breeds involved here? Do you have to dehorn these calves to have them graded as CAB?

Steve, I think you mixed up on CAB. It's a grade of a carcass, you can't have a CAB cow and bull. You can have a black hided cow and bull, their offspring will qualify to be considered to possibly grade CAB.

As mentioned, you are confused using the term CAB.
A polled cow bred to a polled bull CAN have a horned calf - if both parents are heterozygous polled (meaning they carry 1 polled gene and 1 horned gene). Both parents HAD to pass the horned gene, because it takes two horned genes to actually have a calf with horns.
A horned calf can qualify for CAB. Only live requirement is that they are of beef type and are 51% black hided.
