C-sections and future pregnancy

I had a 16 month old heifer that had to have a c-section. 110 pound calf. She was supposed to be open when I bought her in April. Anyways, will this hurt her chances to conceive in the future? Vet tells me that he thinks she will be okay and make a good brood cow. Others have told me that she should be made into hamburger.

What do you think? Any experiences?
 
Just weaned a calf off of a cow that had a C Section as a heifer. Preg checked her and she is safe with her 3rd and will calve at the same time she has on the two previous calves. Like Iso said, "Time will tell."
 
It seems from posts on here that a lot of cows don;t survive the c-section recovery and die. Sio I asked the vet about it. He said that unless there are some real complications if the vet did things right then almost all cows should recover and it shoudln;t have any effect on future pregnancys.

Oldest cow on the place had a C section for her first calf - got a calf every year from her since then.

Maybe we have been lucky with veterinarians and situations - over the past 10 or more years we have never lost a cow from a C section, and have always had them breed back.

Give her time and see - if she was any good I certainly would - the choice always remains with the owner

It often takes some time to breed back even if they start cycling very soon after the C-section. That is in my very limited experience with C sections, but I am waiting on one to calve very soon that had a C-section last year, will be about a month late even though she cycled within 21 days after the C-section.

We had a yearling heifer that needed a c section this spring and she was open when we preg checked her yesterday. I know she cycled after we turned her out with the bull in May because I put an estropatch on her before I turned her out.
I was disappointed.. she was a nice little cow.
 
This makes me wonder; is there ever a problem with the uterus tearing on the old suture line? I ask because with people it has happened. My first was an emergency c-section (she was 10 pounds), my second I had at hospital that watched me closely and allowed a vaginal birth, but with my third (and last) the hospital (different one) would not allow a vaginal birth because of the likely hood of the uterus rupturing on the suture line. How likely is that with cattle?
