Bushfires in Australia

Bushfires are spread over New South Wales,Victoria,Tasmania and South Australia. A fire in Tasmania yesterday destroyed 20 homes in a small township on the north east coast of that state. A number of sheds and about 4 homes have been destroyed in Victoria, Most of the Victorian fires are in the north east of the state in their alpine region. One fire in that area is burning on a 240 klm front. Two major fires have joined up overnight.Several of their ski resorts are under threat (PS they don't have snow about in summer up there) Over the next two days the weather is supposed to deteriorate with temperatures expected to be in the high 30's and low 40's (celcius that is). We have no problems in our area.

Colin, that is a scary situation to be in. In the summer of '05, there were fires breaking out every where every day.
They brought in firefighters out of Minneota and stationed them here along with planes. It made some difference.

Get out your disc and cut some fire breaks. That is about all you can do until it finally rains. Hopefully you don't have wooden fence posts.

States that are not as badly affected are helping each other out as well there are firefighters from New Zealand (our other state) as well lending a hand. There are countless planes as well as two sky cranes that our state lease from the US. Our state government hasn't the brains to purchase ones similar to them. Save a lot of money in the long run. Their names are "Elvis" and "Georgia Peach" I don't know how they got the names for them.
Our country is pretty safe from fires most times. We have green grass as opposed to brown and drought down south.

If the crews running those sky cranes are USA, I'd say you've got rednecks in your midst.

Not sure whether they are piloted by US rednecks or not. Doesn't matter they are doing a good job.

We're lucky there hasn't been any around here that have been to dangerous.

As much as I'd like to see them go from NSW, VIC, WA and TAS I'm glad they aren't up here in Queensland.

11 homes burnt and one death overnight in Victoria and 4 more homes went in Tasmania. The weather is milder today and for the next couple of days they forecast. Over 450,000 hectares have been burnt in Victoria so far.
We've had a bit of a shower this morning but still stormy looking.

We have the same every summer up here...usually have to wait untill the fall rains come to get the bigger ones out. One summer the sky was dark from Spokane to Billings and there were places that you barely could see the road.

So far 30 homes have been lost in the fires and two days ago 7 New Zealand firefighters were burnt,one very seriously. Over 680,000 hectares have been burnt in Victoria so far. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate over the next two days.

Reasonable sized fire in SA yesterday... it was actually right behind our place. Thank goodness they managed to stop it aout 300m from the boundary. Logs are still burning, and the wind's up, but hopefully we should be okay now. The CFS are still out there, doing a great job.

There's a fairly reasonable sized fire here around 40 kms to the West of us.

We've got green grass, but that'll only last a week, 2 at the most. We should be ok, the wind hasn't been to bad so alot better conditions than those down south.
