bulls with cows

Recently i bought a small herd of cattle. There are about twelve momma cows and some have a calf on her others do not. My question is seeing how the bulls have spent months with the cows what should I do? I have no working relationship with a vet yet so not sure how many are bred back. What is the going price to have a cow palpated.

Around here preg checking depends on how many head you got and if the vet comes to you. Alot of cows it is $5-$7 a head plus trip fee. Just a couple of head will run $15 each. I would have them checked to see if they are bred (most likely), how far along so that you can plan. If there are heifers in the bunch I would be very concerned about not knowing what birth weight the bull that bred them will throw.

if they weren't bred they should be showing heat every three weeks. unless they have a problem

Biopryn will do a blood test for $2.50 and give you a positive or negative result - they can't tell you how far along they are.
