Bulls for Sale -- CLEMSON BULL TEST

I'll say one thing for you. You have some guts.

We have a member here from New York. Her name is Jeanne. You should hire her as a consultant.

For starters if I was you I wouldn't use Gar Predestined again on that black bulls mother!

I am a younger guy so I will defer to the comments of the older guys but just keep in mind:

A. Good thing about auctions is they are the best opinion on how you are doing.
B. Never let perfection be the enemy of good

but he thinks their wrong.. now you will be to that you've thrown in with em... :cowboy:

I disagree with the older guys too. But I can't argue with them when it comes to thin bone, thick bone, top line, low line, eye set or sheath direction etc etc. I just been around cattle for all my life and it is like pornagraphy i know it when I see it. And I know that for 14 month old bulls those bulls are above average. No they are not great and I don't think the seller thinks he has $10,000 bulls but if they were ran through an auction in my area right now I would guess they would fetch from $2500 - $3500 a piece which I would guess is about in the range the seller would be happy with . Not perfect but good. So I guess I should say I defer to the auction one of the last places of totally free market enterprise.

im in your area to, and that sounds about right for average......and that first bull has average written all over..................and behind to

Well, then the average in your area is below average. You could still make an argument for the red bull, but the black one is a shocker, more so taking into account he just came out of a growth test. Can you imagine how much beef he'll carry if he has to hustle for grazing, sniff 35 cows everyday and breed the ones on heat in the heat?

I thought they were average'ish bulls but I thought they were just going into a growth test. If they are just coming out of a test..... I am not impressed. And if they are coming off test I didn't see any test result numbers. What was their gain and how did that compare to other bulls on the same test?

The numbers are there, Dave. They're both in the middle on indexing. I agree with u4411, there's plenty enough cowherds that would benefit from either of those bulls that they won't go lacking for bidders at auction. Except maybe the red one.

I think a lot of folks, and I'm one of them, look mostly at growth. Both those bulls had a pretty good weaning weight which I think is the best clue as to what his calves will do.

Do you believe they got there on moma and grass alone??

Don't know but that's one of the things I'd find out before even getting interested in bidding on them. Doesn't seem to bother a lot of buyers though, the creep feds sell just as good as the non-creep feds. I don't buy creep feds myself.

To me the red bull looks to have a bit to offer but the black looks to be the result of a lot of selection for black without much else ( looks to me that he walks a little short as well but that could just be bad eyesight.)

Exactly what I was thinking. $3500 for the black one, $2500 for the red if anybody even bids on him. The sale price at auction is the truth.

Would not give my pocket knife for the black one and not much more for the red one. If they are the average for you folks area i would look else where for bulls.

Finally the voice of reason. The red bull isn't terrible. The black bull should have been cut at weaning. Just goes to show what happens when the only criteria is what's on paper!

Especially coming from a man who has made fun of others bulls this thread cracks me up. My wifes Pomerainian has more butt on him than that black bull.

Like Gelbvieh 5 said you might want to hire Jeanne to consult for you for a few years. Tell her to make sure she brings her knife!
