Bull Will Not Breed Cattle/ fairly long post

Here's the deal: Bought a son of 1407 at 16 months old, put him in with 6 heifers, not one of them has been bred. Called seller took the bull back to his place and he had a semen test done on him. Scrotal was 36cm/test volume was 1cc/%alive sperm was 50/ motility was average +/Total sperm /AVG +/ Live sperm was AVG +/Deformed was AVG -/ he is supposed to be satisfactory for natural use. After all of this I put him back in with another group for two months, none bred! Had vet check every body and there were a couple that were in and all check out to be OK, but, this bull will not breed any advice, this joker set me back a couple of grand and now he won't breed anything.

A BSE test is only an "indication" that the bull is good. Essentially all it means is that they could find NO reasons that the bull wouldn't be able to breed. However, there are things that a BSE test cannot cover.

We had a bull with a 92% test, but he bred nothing. We watched him a few times and he just couldn't extend his penis far enough to enter the cow.

Another guy had a bull that would ONLY mount the cows head. Another one that tested GOOD, but was completely useless. This guy sent him back to the breeder, and HE tried him out on a few head, and that WAS all the bull would do. No calves from him

Basically, I would go to the breeder, and tell him what is going on. Usually when you buy a bull (from a reputable breeder) he is guaranteed to breed. As long as he was not injured, and that is the reason for him not to breed, you should either get your money back, or have him replaced with a bull of equal quality.
