Bugs are a Little Thick

Local news channel just posted this radar image. I wished it was rain showing up, but no. It's bugs.

Better wear a lead cup slick. They had to turn the gain up on that radar to pick up bugs on the radar.

Not really--they have to turn it down to omit the clutter of dust, birds and bugs almost all the time. Lots of times they'll tell ya that what you see is just reflection of things like this and not rain.

I'm used to little 12 kw radars spotting individual birds at 12 miles. Bugs hundreds of miles is some scary power levels.

Heck, I was just amazed that bugs were high enough in the air for radar to pick up.

I don't remember a year where the bugs were so thick and so plentiful. Good grief! Mosquitoes are huge and hungry. Wasps and hornets are thick and swarming. Weird.

The bugs are more plentiful this year than in previous years here in Middle Tennessee. They swarm around any light at night and even fly into the windows seeking the light from inside the house. Ticks, chiggers, Japanese beetles, wasps, and some kind of pre-historic looking creatures are thick in the tall grass and in the short grass.

I hate winter, but I do appreciate the lack of bugs anyway.
