On another thread, someone asked the question why don't some people cross breed. I tried to answer the best I can, but this is what I was trying to get at. We purchased these heifers for a rancher who will breed them. The steers sold and weighed good, but their were alot of people at the sale that came just for these girls.
The Bruce Ranch sold steers and heifers today. They are nearly straight Red Angus. They had a load of 85 head of steers weighing 607 lbs and sold for $1.07/cwt which is $650/head or $55,250 for that load. Then their heifer mates came in and they sold a load of 96 head weighing 568 lbs. They sold for $1.19/cwt which is $676/head or $64,896 for that load.
If these heifers were crossed with another breed, our guy and several others would have not been interested and they would have most likely sold for $8 to $10/cwt back from the steers, which would have been around $98/cwt or $100 head cheaper instead of $26 head more. To me that is huge!
