We had a little skiff of snow yesterday morning,but by 10am when it all melted it didn't leave enough moisture to make mud.

We are 8 degrees and 1 in of snow over the weekend. supposed to get a little more this week. My Ski Area is opening friday not sure what they are gonna ski on. They got les than a foot.

Just got back from the farm and it was 15* out there. That was 8* colder than at my home 9 miles away. Got things finished pretty quick and got back in the truck.

We have been in the 40's with some lows in the 30's and some highs in the 50's. But it has been really wet for the last month. One day of heavy rain followed by a day of scattered showers followed by a day of heavy rain followed by a day of scattered showers and so on and so on.

Seems like things are always the worst we're you are. We had that heavy storm come through last month and it has seemed to trigger a early mud season for me. Spots of mud almost to the cows bellys to get to the feeder, me having to plan out my every step if I have to cross through the muddy area in my mud boots ..... And hoping I made the right choice and not ending up with a boot full of mud. The last few years this much mud has been in late winter, Feb or so, I may be a long winter wet winter.

I am sure not bragging. The river in the back of the pasture has been at the top or over its banks into the fields for a month now. The winter lot is a soupy muddy mess. I really wish I had some of that cold and dry weather.

28 the last 2 mornings--dry as everywhere else in Texas too. Clear blue skies and I'm burning brush with an eye on the wind direction.
Some areas of E. Texas got a good rain last week, but we didn't get more than a few sprinkles.

I'm not Dave but try standing in knee deep mud wearing chin high boots. Throw on top of that this is happening in mid December when our muddy season usually does'nt happen until February and we don't get dry until April or May. I know you're talking drought, so take it kind of tounge and cheek, until I'm knee deep with chin high boots on. :tiphat:

My vote is yea give me some dry.... For now

Mud is the only thing that ever makes me think about stopping raising cows and calves. I sometimes think I would be much happier backgrounding in the fair weather months, and selling hay than I would be dragging hay around all winter.

Believe me if you lived less than 50 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Western Washington there would be some time between November and April that you would wish for dry weather. There are places a little south and west of me that get over 100 inches per year. There are places north and west of me that average over 200 inches. A few years back from December through March (120 days) it rained it rained on 90 of those 120 days. The total rainfall during that period was 60 inches. That means it rained on 3 out of 4 days and it averaged raining 2/3 of an inch every day it rained. And that is at my place where it is dry compared to others. We don't wish for dryness, we pray for it every winter.
