Does anyone know anything about the cost of brick to brick a house ? How much brick cost ? How much it cost to have them laid etc....., ?

Used to be $4/face foot several years ago, don't know what it is currently.

in my area it runs $800 per square. that would be for a typical running bond, nothing fancy. if you add soldier courses, coins, rock in-lays, etc., the price goes up. you can purchase standard size brick which runs about $0.38 ea. or you can purchase king size which runs about $0.65 ea. you might think you could save money by purchasing less king size brick - but labor eats up the savings.

Stepper are you talking new construction or re siding?

Brick varies in price from say about 35 to about 60 cents.

It helps if you live close to a brick factory or could haul it yourself.

I found an add in the news papper where someone has a house to sale to be moved. I happen to have a peace of property very close to where the house is presently sitting. I checked into the cost of moving it and it would run $ 5 k to move it.

So i was tring to figure out what all it would cost to move it and sit it back up just like it is. If i could buy it cheap enough and not have alot of money tied up in sitting it back up i think i could make some money off of it.

But the house has brick on the front side of it and wood siding on the other sides of it. And it looks really good that way. So i would like to if possible take the brick down that is on it now and clean it up and get a brick layer to relay it.

But i dont know if this brick could be reused or not. Because of the mortar that was used on it. I have seen builders tear down these old brick buildings that was built in the 20's & 30's and take a hammer/chisel and that mortar knocks of fairly easy and cleans up well. But the mortar used on these newer homes ? Well i dont know about.

So i was wondering what new brick cost and how they figure how much it takes and how much it cost to have it laid if i was to have to buy new brick.

The brick that is presently on the house is really nice looking stuff. It is longer than alot of brick i usually see on houses. About 1'-4" long. Sort of has a cut looking face to the brick with a lime stone look to it.

we tore down a fireplace that was put up in 1979. sister was remodeling a house that my grandfather had remodeled but died before he could live there. the fireplace had separated from the house and she decided she wanted to build a room there instead. anyway we had a friend come hook to it with his backhoe and pulled it down. those old bricks cleaned up pretty easily with just a hammer and chisel and we didnt lose too many in the fall either.

The very popular "Old Chicago" brick is all used with the mortar taken off.

The "Old Chicago" is the style with out holes. Most brick has holes for extra strength. If it has holes [most likely] it makes it real difficult removing mortar and not practical. Then it would be better buying new, in my opinion.

Here in my area you can buy brick at about 265.00 per 1000. Average cost to lay standard brick it is .35 to .40 per brick plus sand and mortar.

Here in KY its about 50 cents a brick and about 50 cents to lay it. I think 1000 brick was 4 to 5 hundred dollars from the brickyard.

I have seen brick veneer houses moved with brick intact and set on new foundation without a crack. Check with whoever might be moving it and see what is possible.
