The alligator that shot Laundrie took it with him.
Poor guy. First his GF dumps him, then after he leaves from out west and goes back to Fla, someone murders his girlfriend. Then, in a fit of despair and emotional sorrow over losing the love of his life, he wanders off in the swamp and gets lost, and a renegade alligator that has learned how to use firearms sneaks up on him and murders him as the water slowly rises and covers him up.
Yeah, sure that's the ticket..that's the way it happened...
