Breeding Heifers

I have 4 limousine heifers that will be 12 months old next month ( October). When will be the best time to breed? I live in Ga. and I am not sure what preference I have as far as a spring or fall calf. Simple questions need simple answers. Thanks

Not before they weigh 800lbs AND (not or) are 14 months old is about as simple as I can put it and still live with my conscience.

Ask your neighbours which times during the year you absolutely don't want to calf and use that as a secondary requirement after the first two are met.

Like Knersie said at least fourteen months and 800 lb. I would breed to avoid really cold or really hot. If you breed in Jan. should put in decent fall weather.

I HAVE JUST GOTTEN SOME LONG HORNS, I THINK THEY ARE AROUND 12 MO. OLD, WEIGHT ABOUT 600 TO 650 LBS. I'VE NEVER HAD THIS TYPE. THEY ARE SMALL FRAMED.. DOES WEIGHT MATTER IN BREEDING OR JUST AGE... I DONT HAVE ANYONE TO ASK WHO HAS THEM CLOSE BY TO MY FARM.

Weight plays a much bigger role than age. Send Ryan a private message asking about the ideal breeding weight for longhorns, at the moment they seem pretty much on par in my rather uninformed opinion. I would guess around 700lbs- 750lbs would be the goal by the time they reach 14 months.

i wouldnt breed those heifers till 800lbs an 14 months old.an i prolly wouldnt breed the longhorns till they was 16 months old.longhorns dont gain weight as fast as other breeds.
