It is about time to breed my daughter's simangus heifer and I need an opinion from someone familiar with the simmental breed. Has anyone seen any calves out of Star Power or heard how they are? Am I asking for trouble? Has anyone heard of calving problems out of him?

From what I understand, the Star Power calves are just now beginning to be born. He is a very young bull that was collected at about 12 months. We used him on some cows and heifers due to calve late summer. You may have to look hard to find anyone with calves just yet. Seems he just came available fall of 07.
I trusted the data indicating that he should be calving ease. The PR on this bull is very hot. I'm told by alot of semi breeders that there will be tons of calves by him next season. Excellent style, structure and good numbers. Good luck in your desision process

Thanks for the replies. The heifer is out of a meyer cow and Hannible. We have high hopes for her as a mamma. Decisions, decisions! We are in the process of picking bulls for several of our heifers-this is the first time we've ever AI'd. We have a Who Made Who bull that we are breeding some cows to, also. Am really curious how they will turn out.

Is this the one?

It might help if some of the simmi people have a picture to help suggest bulls for her. I don't know a whole lot, but it seems like Dream On is a good bull.

She looks pretty big framed to me, I would use a smaller frame bull to bring her down. Whatever you do use a calving ease bull, don't want to kill her first go round.

Star Power is supposed to be a calving ease bull, but with him being young I was wanting to see if anyone had some calves out of him. My daughter likes the white on him and was hoping to get some white on the calf. I do know someone who haves a calf out of him that we will look at, but would like to hear from more than 1! Thanks!

If you have a month or so, everyone should start having calves by him. As I said in an earlier post they are just now starting to be born. As far as I know one of my buds down the road should have about 5 of them in the next 6 weeks. If you have'nt made a decision by then I'll let you know what his experience is.

Thanks, Avalon. That's the bad thing about using an unproven bull-not knowing. If we do decide to go with him, do you think he will cross well with her?

Ok, so I just looked up the Star Power bull. He looks good, momma looks good too. It looks like Sinclair used him on heifers, so maybe they will have details about true calving ease if you call them? Good Luck, I think he's a good bull and he's got a good sire.

Star power is not workign as a calving ease bull. However his calves are very nice. I would sya breed her to Dirty Hairy or Pale Face

I have an excellent Simmi calf out of a Dream On heifer and Mo Better.. and she has a white face! Easy calving also.. which is always my biggest fear with a heifer!
