Breds and pairs are up

At the sale today there was a sellout of Charolais pairs and cows from a guy that died. There was about 80 head and half were pairs with 200 to 300lb calves and had been running back with the bull, they brought 2000$ to 2150$, and the bred cows were 1450$ and up. The calf market is gaining ground right now, but we are in pretty dry conditions right now also. I need some pairs myself right now but not that bad.

$2000 or better sounds about right for char cow/calf pairs at that stage. They're worth it.

a guy i know sold 18 reg beefmaster 3 in 1s with some of the top bloodlines for $2,500 ea.

I know they were worth it today, it's just that 2 weeks ago here the same cattle could have been bought for 1600$ to 1800$. These today were as nice of a set of cows and calves as you could want to find, that's for sure.

That's right, a lot of these today could have been registered if he had kept up the papers, and to get them he had spent years keeping back the cream of his heifers every year, and selling anything less than perfect.

I didn't personally know the guy, I had been told about his cattle before. And Today at the sale bob Paterson told me all about them and said the guys name but I can't remember it. He was from Houston but his name has left me now.

Sorry about that! I was trying to say I had some pairs coming in to my farm in the $900 range. These have been around 1100 up to 1250 lb cows with less than 200 lb calves. I have them seperate from my main group of cattle. I was just going to sell cow and calf seperately this fall. My pastures are still good, and I think I can make a couple dollars on these.

What age and condition are the cows? Sounds like your cows may kill for more that your giving for the pairs or at least close.

I am buying them for the next bid above the cattle dealer that will split them ,and the momma goes to slaughter and the calf goes?? I know these cows aren't keepers, (older cows, not nice udders on some, one was a little nutty in the chute), BUT they are raising O.K. calves- and we aren't gonna be giving lightweight feeders away this fall.
I sometimes try things that are kind of thinking outside the box. With pasture available,I should make some money unless I get a couple that don't want to live.
