well i went to the reg beefmaster sale and got real lucky.i got real nice 2yr old red paint bred heifer thats 8 months safe in calf.i got her by winning the bidd on the pick of heifers.the other 2 was 3 months bred.got her for $2400 was going to go to $2700.the rest of the bred an pairs was going for $2500 to $3500 and the very best was going for $4000 to $4500.open heifers was selling way to high $2000 to $4000.bulls was selling for $2300 to $4100.my heifer has 13 gens of polled breeding behind her.that and her being a paint and ready to calve is why i bought her.i wish i had the money to have taken the other 2 that was 3 months bred to calve in nov.but that was all i could do.those 2 brought $2500 and $2700.

Congrats, it's always a pleasure to get somehign for less then you were willing to pay. Last Red Angus sale I went to the stuff I considered junk started at higher then I was wililng to pay for the really good stuff. I've always had a champagne taste on a near beer budget.

thanks dun my budget is like yours.the only way i was able todo it was that i sold all of my top end 2014 heifer calves to 1 buyer.plus my mentor tells me to sell 2 heifers to buy back a bred heifer or cow or pair.so im trying to follow his advice.he also said to cull my herd and buy back better bred cows/heifers.im hoping todo that before the sale at the end of the year.

oh she is polled no doubt about it.the breeder i got her from is well known for his polled genetics.as he has been breeding polled beefmasters since 76.i have both horned an polled cattle in my herd.i prefer polled.but it really doesnt matter since i changed my focus.this heifers calf gets to stay on the farm either way.so im hoping she will be a heavy milker.

Still a 50/50 chance Dun. No in between she is Homo or Hetro. She might even be horned BB never said she was polled.
True, but the "odds" are with that many generations that she is homo polled.

Sounds like a solid buy. I am assuming she is one of the Buckner heifers that was there? Would love to see some pics of her and the calf in a month or so.

yes she is 1 of buckners heifers.if i wasnt so short on cash right now id took all of them.ill get pics as soon as i can.buckners heifers was the heifers i was wanting.

I have not found that to be true Dun. Some lines of cattle in the Limousin breed are hard breed to homo polled. Different breeds may be different.

I know that feeling being short on cash and seeing several nice heifers that would look good in your pasture. Glad you got one of the ones you wanted and she should be a good one coming from Buckner. Was looking at his cows as I drove by the other day solid looking girls.

my buddy couldnt make it the sale.so i read off all the prices that the the cattle brought.and he said thats the reason im selling my heifers and buying cows.

The more I see what heifer are selling for the more I think I got a real good deal on the two registered five year old cows I bought for 1500 a piece

I think 2400 for an 8 mo bred registered heifer is a good deal especially one from solid breeding. Seeing those prices can't imagine what heifers at Collier Farms and Emmons sold for probably way out of my price range lol. I get mine sold I am going to see what Buckner, Swinging B, Dennis Walker, and Gene Hawthorne have if they don't have anything will just sit on my money until the fall sales.
