Some areas don't have feed and fewer of us want to calve cows.Cool tee shirts.
I watched a sale in Montana last week . I thought bred cows were pretty soft. Basically $1/ pound plus $250 for the calf that they were carrying.
I went to the sale today, but was able to get out of there without having to break out my checkbook.
Per cow?Top so far.. one package of 9 red heifers bred red, Feb 20 due date. $4150

One ranch bought two liner loads today. Some logging dollars involved… likely paid an average of $3800That's per cow? that's crazy. I know they're getting high in my area, but nothing like that.
Maybe counting on prices rising? And they like to gamble? One ranch bought two liner loads today. Some logging dollars involved… likely paid an average of $3800
I am thinking those who have stayed in will be enjoying prices for 2 and maybe more years yet. A load of 600 lb steer calves in Alberta brought $4.04 last Friday.Maybe counting on prices rising? And they like to gamble?
LOL... and I remember 25 cents a pound... and $27 a ton hay delivered and stacked in the barn.I am thinking those who have stayed in will be enjoying prices for 2 and maybe more years yet. A load of 600 lb steer calves in Alberta brought $4.04 last Friday.
More heifers still going on feed than staying at home. I've lived through a few cycles myself and made money through them all.LOL... and I remember 25 cents a pound... and $27 a ton hay delivered and stacked in the barn.
It's amazing to me how many don't work the cycles. They buy when the market is high and sell in a panic when the market tanks. But that's what makes money for those that sell high and buy low. Gotta always keep that core herd to balance out the extremes.More heifers still going on feed than staying at home. I've lived through a few cycles myself and made money through them all.
