Brangus x Fleckvieh

Because of the drough tand our extremely hot summer, I have learned to appreciate my brahman and brahman influenced cattle.

I have decided to sell my hereford cows(Excellent cows but did not do well in the heat of the summer) and buy brangus cows.

I currently have a fleckvieh bull calf who should be ready to breed in the spring. I bought this mom at a registered sale. Excellent cow!!! I think he would be a decent bull to use on commercial cows.

I found a group of bred F1 brangus heifers.

Would putting a Fleckvieh bull on F1 brangus produce a nice baldie?

Are you going with black or red brangus? Are u sure you want to throw out the Herefords due to one extreme summer?

I would go with black brangus.

And yes. We have always had brangus. Sold the last brangus earlier this year.I bought the herefords as bred heifers two years ago. They raise good calves but not as good as my eared cattle have raised.

They are the first to lose condition when it gets hot while my eared cattle are still fat.
I just think they are not suitable for my area.

Is there a heat tolerance difference between red and black? I would think even having Brahman influence that black animals would still suffer more.

No grays/smokeys if he uses Fleckvieh bulls that don't carry the color dilution gene.

Most of the larger hereford operations in the state are located in the hottest part of the state (West Texas)

What bloodlines are your Hereford cows? There are many lines of Herefords that do not shed off as well as others and most
were developed originally in the northern part of the country. It would be interesting to know if your Herefords had any "Southern"
bred genetics in them. Some of these lines would be more adaptive to your heat.
