The breed associations do not own those names. The Victorian Brafords as an example, were being produced long before the composite Brafords and these breed organizations existed. To deny that and say these organizations control the name is blatantly disregarding history.

Brafords were developed in my back yard and you won't hear people worship at these composite breed associations altar. In fact, there is a strong case to be made against their productivity vs F1 and F2 crosses.

It's very common for any thing from 1/2 to 1/4 ear cattle, in Braford country, to be called Brafords. We, call them Brafords.

You want to search or look for them online, you better type in F1 Braford because not all tigerstripes are F1s and not all F1s are tigerstripes.

Can you explain why they aren't called Brafords and Brangus? I do get top dollar for the angus and baldies for sure. Guess I'll stick with them!

I have heard ranchers and Phd's both use the terms F1 Brangus and F1 Braford to describe the cattle created from first cross of Brahman x Angus and the Brahman X Hereford. I'm pretty sure that verbiage is technically incorrect. I get the impression that is just the industry norm in describing those crosses. However, I have also heard them refer to F1 Brangus describing crossing a Composite Brangus with another Purebred. So yea, it's confusing. But basically F1 just refers to the first cross of two purebred animals.

When calling to purchase say , F1 Brangus, I confirm that they are Brahman x Angus and not Brangus X with another purebred. Although, F1 Brahmans are pretty easy to spot. When layman ask me what type of cows we run I tell them F1 Brahman crosses, some X with Angus & some Hereford. They make amazing mama cows in the South.

Some one should call this auction barn and tell them those aren't Braford steers. Tell the you are with the Cattle Today Breed Verification Association.

How is the market for Brahman crosses? I currently have Hereford and angus cows and I have always bred them to an angus bull. I have the opportunity to purchase a Brahman bull. What are you experiences with Brangus and Brafords? I keep most of the calves and finish them out but some years I do sell them. Thank you!

Keep in mind that Brahman bull is going to dramatically increase calving size.
