Bovatec

Lo9king for those who have experience using feed with Bovatec. Have been feeding a 3/8” creep cube without Bovatec. They have ran out and not sure when they will get them. Another store has the same cube with Bovatec. Picked up a cake feeder load. Decided I had better do some research. The man at the feed store and the local breeders using it feel there is no issue.

We don’t feed cubes, but any all natural supplement that I buy I order with bovitec. It’s been around for ever. Pretty safe.

Very anecdotal evidence from a long time ago. I would feed it year round if I had a reliable delivery system. Go with it.

Thanks for the reply. These cubes are from a large commercial mill. They will be fed free choice in creep feeders. Most say I will be fine. Saw one post that said you have to be very observant and limit intake. I plan to put some out tomorrow.

you'll be fine using it there are risks with extreme overdoses and that is usually due to a feed company mistake during mixing. Going from a feed without to a feed with it, fed at the expected rate, shouldn't be a problem at all.
The addition of rumensin/bovatec offers improved feed efficiency, some bloat protection, some coccidiosis protection, compared to a feed without it.
If you're worried about overdose figure out your normal feed intake per head, the percent inclusion of bovatec in the new feed and then compare that number with the suggested dose per day per head at that liveweight,

We can only get a custom mix in bulk loads. The local coop carries the cube with Bovatec. Most of their producers prefer it. So far we are satisfied.

It’s only the expensive horses that Rumensin kills.
I think I’ve told this story here before, but a buddy of mine was at a feed meeting put on by the company that makes Rumensin. Someone brought up the dangers to equine. The rep said the company had done some research on wild horses and they couldn’t feed them enough Rumensin to kill them.
He then realized that he had just said that and quickly changed the subject.
