Our neighbor has a horse that got sick. sores and swelling in the mouth and throat. She has been treating her mare with alflafa cubes. place of origin is Texas. Vet has seen another case just recently. Tested her horse, time will tell if she makes it.

Good luck with that. Blister beetles are nasty little things. They love alfalfa. If they were in the cubes, I'd check the 'lot' numbers with other bags with the same 'lot' numbers and remove them from the buying public.

We had that problem one year with one of our mare's, she was they only one to get sick. We believe that it was the pigweed in the hay we bought that year, but I don't think we came up with a positve answer.

Are sores and swelling the only symptoms?
