Does anyone have a cleaning solution that will take out the dirty pyrodex out without having to use 300 patches to clean the barrel and they still come out slightly dirty ? :help: I am using some foam that expants then turns to liquid and takes the majority of the burnt pyrodex out just wondered if there is something better.
 
Hot water and soap. Put the barrel lock/nipple end first in a bucket of hot water with detergent in it. Take your ramroad with the bullet seating tip with cotton cleaning patches on it forming a tight fit in the bore. Run it up and down a dozen or so times and suck the hot water up into the barrle and pump it back out. Then use just clean out water and repeat. When it dries lube up the inside of the barrel with something like T/C bore butter.
 
Yep quit using crap in your gun and shoot black powder or Blackhorn 209.
Pyrodex is black with graphite and potassium perchlorate that makes a slime crud that is hard to clean on top of it is just as corrosive as black and a lot harder to clean
Black clean's right up with soap and water Blackhorn with Hoppes.
 
Gotcha, I just hate to put the gun in water. I do use bore butter when I store it just after shooting it sucks i catch hell with the cleaning. My bp rifle breaks down like a double barrel shotgun and has a nickel barrel on this one. I tell you what I never got any of the regualar blued barrels to get clean as I can the nickel barrel or stainless barrel.

Hmm I will have to see if they can use regular blk powder. I was at local sporting goods shop they had some kind of white blk powder pellets that were supposed to be clean I dont know anyone thats shot them.

Go to Blackhorn 209 and follow the instuction's it will clean up with a couple of patches wetted down with Hoppe's.

Now forget all that magnum crap you seemed to get sucked in on and go to about 100 grain's and a 200 grain 44 cal bullet in a sabot. You will have a deer killing machine you accuracy will increase as well.

the stuff i was using was t17 t/c bore cleaning stuff. I do use hornady xtp .44/240 grain bullet with the green sabot and it is a killing machine lol
 
nice I may buy another blk powder and use that in it... I shot this sob 11 times and have it sighted in just right and hate to go back and do all that again.

Your head is like a flat rock sometimes, you don't have to buy a new muzzleloader.
Start out with about seventy grain's and work up till you are right on target.
It will take less anyway as it is much more efficient.
 
well I do have a big head. I will see if I can find some is it only available in powder? but you do have a excellent point about trying it out and seeing what happens.
 
When I quit shooting MLs I was still using real black powder, never saw any reason to change. But mine were all tradtional and none of the inline crap.
