This country is gaining one person every 15 seconds. And the population has grown more than a 3rd since 1960 in the US of A. We need to address this issue and no one wants to talk about it. The population in this country is choking us one birth at a time.
Something needs to be done ASAP.

We need another world war to cut down on the population.

I brought up a possible solution on this board a while back....it wasn't well received really. It's easier to be reactive than proactive..or just ignore the issue until it overwhelms us as a society. Sorry, feeling pretty cynical lately. At any rate, you are on point with the topic TG.
Reality is, the good ol US of A is dissolving into being just a small part of a worldwide economy/society. And as this happens, our individual rights and liberties cease to be important. We lose autonomy, privacy, and basically identity.
I firmly believe genome testing will eventually become the deciding factor in who gets to procreate and who doesnt. It is coming. Our genome results will be scrutinized like epds of cattle.

And a plague/famine or pestilence. I suspect something in Nature is in the works. This planet strives for equilibrium.

We need a turn towards morality and welfare reform. As it stands there are no consequences for immoral behavior and in some states there is even a benefit for reproducing at random. Morality has to come from the social level but taking taking away government support will help curb the growth.

Wasn't Hitler ahead of that curve in Germany in the 1930's?

It would seem so, though he had no 'science' to support his theories. Olympics didn't help his theory either. Nevertheless, he had an entire nation follow his lead..........

I say instead of giving a tax credit for having children there should be a penalty. Way to many people having kids that can't afford them and the children suffer. Having children should be a privilege.

And who gets to decide morality???? For 2 centuries in this country, certain behaviors were deemed immoral, now they are legal, accepted and embraced. I'm curious who gets to decide what is moral? Welfare reform. Interesting concept, but will take atleast 2 generations to unlearn being a dependant of the system. In the meantime, morally, thode folks still need to eat, sleep and be entertained. And still doesn't slow the pop growth.

The population of the world is right around 7.4 billion right now. There is 1.9 billion acres in the continental US. That mean that if the whole population of the world lived in the 48 continental states there would be less than 4 people per acre. That doesn't sound much like an over population problem to me.

Over population is another evriomental wacko lie.

Taboo Steve. Taboo. (Sarcasm)
I agree. Need to find ways to give incentives to slow down the reproduction. Not encourage it and reward it.

Missing the important part of agriculture, water, roadways, housing, etc etc. It all takes space. And how much of that acreage is usable, viable? Some of it isn't fit for grazing let alone eeking out a living. It's a very real problem that is growing at a rapid rate.

Edit to add: I'm the furthest thing in the world from an environmentalist.

I think it has been shown that the population of the US would either be stagnant or declining if it were not for immigration (legal and otherwise). People are not having kids like they used to, all people, but especially WASP's. That is bad when our economic models are built on growth, you MUST have constant growth or you die, just look at Japan or even China now. I have to wonder if that is why they are letting this immigration thing happen in Europe, their population is even more negative then ours.

The government NEEDS the population to increase, and if it increases illegally, it is a win win for them. People working illegally will pay taxes into the system but don't take them out (SS, IRS returns etc.) Yes, I know you will say they receive certain benefits, and they do, but in order to keep the Ponzi scheme of Social Security and others going you need more people coming into the system.

Interesting times.

Texas is big enough to give every person on earth 3 acres. But we get to choose who comes in. Planned Parenthood gets to choose who gets born.

US women still average 2.03 children (number 1 in industrialized nations). With the increased population of women in child bearing years, and average life expectancy generally increasing (science, medicine , technology) US pop grows 1.6 million a year. Census Bureau puts it at 3.3 million a year.

Not trying to be an a$$, I think that is a little off though, we are below replacement rate here in the U.S.

"The total fertility rate in the United States estimated for 2014 is 1.86 children per woman..........However, U.S. population growth is among the highest in industrialized countries, because the differences in fertility rates are less than the differences in immigration levels, which are higher in the U.S."
