Big Cow

Anyone who can look at this picture and give me their two cents worth as to the possibilites of her breed. She is black which indicates angus. Has one white foot (her left rear). But she is big, I sold her because she was open after nine months with two bulls. Sad she was extremely gentle. She was sold this past week and weighed 1890 pounds.

Obviously something besides angus, how much, and what is hard to say. Inyati I really like how your enjoying your retirement. I hang it up in 7 years. I hope I'm as content as you seem to be.

There are plenty of Angus cows that big here in Australia, really I would say its anyone's guess. Could she be Sim-Angus? The foot could be a birth mark?
One good thing about the big ones coming up empty, there's plenty of pounds being cashed to pay back on the grass she ate!

Black does not mean Angus - and there are so many big black Angus that she could be just that

CAB is proof - to me - that colour is more important than breed - so no worries - just sell the calves as Angus and everyone will be happy

Hey, Hook, she went to slaughter. I followed up on her. I was glad she did not go to someone who would not take proper care of her. I see some cattleman who don't treat their animals right. She has been mine for over 3 years. She belonged to my brother before that. My Dad who is over 90, raised her from a calf but he does not remember what she is out of. She has always been properly cared for, especially by me, I am more content knowing she is at peace after a pretty good life.

I was 60 when I retired 3 years ago. I love it but am really very fortunate to have something that keeps me motivated and engaged. Without this vocation to occupy me, I think I would rather still be employed. I wish you the same. Where in KY are you? Hope I have not already asked. :???:

Speaking from my experiences with this cross...this cross are not always have this dairy look if they are not F1 cross or if they are less than 1/4 holstein. But I had large black cows with white feet looks similar to the cow in the picture.

Or it could be from how she was raised from the calf as you mentioned that your father raised her as a calf. Is this cow come from your father's herd or did he bought her from someone?

She was born and raised in the herd my Dad and brother managed. Her mother was purchased at the stockyards. So there is no way to know what her mother was.

Inyati, I know your operation is more a labor of love than a business venture, but you might look at the size of your cows. You could probably run more cows with same inputs, and hopefully sell more pounds at weaning. Just a thought. I'm guilty to. When them big old cows wean a nice calf, it's hard to let them go.

Depends on the cow. We have some little girls that eat like pigs and some big women that eat like birds.

I'm trying to look over and work with the most efficient ones.
