I grew some popcorn in my garden one time and shelled a five gallon bucket full. I never did get all that popcorn popped. The shelling wasn't hard for me though because I have a pto drive John Deere sheller.

I use a pair of channel lock pliers... Just adjust them to the size of the corn, hand them to my son, and say "you're the one that likes popcorn". Works pretty good.
